Dive
into the Past!
It was in the late 1790's that the land was cleared and
prepared for building by the pioneers from New England, Montreal and
Richelieu Valley. Richmond is one of the oldest towns of the region.
The municipality was named Richmond in honor of the Governor General of the
colony Charles Lennox, the IV of Richmond. In the middle of the IXX
century, Richmond already accommodated the St. Francis Academy which was
founded by the first Black American University graduate, Alexander Twilight,
who also taught at the academy. Richmond was also renowned for its
local production of Slate, Bricks, and its important Railway. |
