In the XIXth century the biggest slate quarries were situated in
Richmond.
The
Slate Interpretation Center allows us to see the wonderful stone called
slate. It teaches us the reasons for its development and its rapid
decline. We learn to appreciate the heritage of slate.
The centre is
situated in a Presbyterian Church built in 1889, which has a slate roof.
The centre offers a guided tour, where you learn about the mining of the
stone, which summated at the end of the 19th century. They also offer a
tour where you will learn of the heritage of Richmond. There are
demonstrations and a gift shop.
The centre is open from 11:00am to 5:00pm everyday from June 24th to
September 2nd. Outside these dates, please call for information
before travelling.
