The Town Planning Committee (CCU)

The Town Planning and Development law, (LAU), as well as certain charters and decrees allows each municipality to adopt a Town Planning committee(CCU).  The main goal of the committee is to make recommendations to the Town Council concerning projects that affect the development of the territory

The LAU obligates all municipalitys to adopt a Town planning committee when they wish to enforce or apply the following development plans:
  • Development Plan (PAE)
  • Heritage Program (PIIA)
  • Special minor dispensation
  • Conditional uses
  • Particular construction projects, modification or use of a building with exceptions to the town planning by-laws.
  • Designation of buildings or landscapes
The Town planning committee is extremely useful and necessary for a solid development plan along with by-laws for zoning lots and constructions

Role and mandate of the CCU

  • Make recommendations to the municipal council about town planning, and development projects;
  • Act as an intermediate between the citizen and the municipal council;
  • Offer the community access to tools that are flexible;
  • Make room for innovative and original ideas;
  • Allow diverse points of view and increase citizen participation;
  • Collaborate with landscape and heritage protection programs (PIIA)
Often the Municipal Council will entrust other mandates to the CCU.

The council can initiate analysis and propose modifications to town planning by-laws that can benefit the citizens

The final acceptance or refusal of a project remains the exclusif decision of the elected.

Your town planning committee (CCU)

  • En soutenant votre municipalité dans les actions qui visent à doter le CCU de moyens appropriés pour l'exercice de ce mécanisme de consultation du milieu;
  • En signifiant votre intérêt à devenir membre de votre CCU.
